Marim Daien Zipursky

I take great enjoyment in the various options clay offers me. Currently, my primary interest is the vessel form. My creative process begins on the wheel with the clay then altered, poked, carved and burnished to achieve the desired shape and surface quality.
The majority of my work is smoke fired, also known as sawdust firing. I choose not to glaze my work in the traditional sense and use oxides and organic material to naturally create colour and pattern. This is a low temperature firing which does leave the work porous and therefore cannot hold liquid. I find this method of alternative firing challenging however I always have confidence in the magic of the fire.
